First Horizon Stuff

Well I did a lot more but it would take too long. I even did powerpoint backgrounds for my presentation that I had to give to the CEO at the end of the internship as well as ones for their bridal expo and things like that... I liked mine too but they don't look right when I put them up here. Anyway they had my lithographs of the colored and blank face as cool sidebars in a very sleek look for me to put all my thumbnails on. Anyway. Yeah. It was fun... and I might go back too. Who knows. Anyway for now I'm enjoying Omega learning the ins and outs of taking those files off my computer and putting them on paper!

First Horizon Stuff

These are ads for magazines where the people who ordered them live. I then get to send these files to the people for approval and then usually to the magazine's ftp online.

First Horizon Stuff

These two are postcards.

First Horizon Stuff

Here's a look for the posters in all the bank branches. This is the look for the whole series... pretty cut and dry I wanted the one below though...

First Horizon Stuff

So yeah I made anything and everything they wanted me to. And by made I mean designed and laid out in the computer. Postcards, take-ones, flyers, banners, posters, koozies, etc. It all had to look similar you know within a corporate look but it was still pretty varied. take a looksee. Here's a flyer.

update time!

So in case you've been wondering where I am, I'm now working for Omega Printing off W. Story in Irving. My internship went well, and perhaps one day soon they will take me back, its been off and on really... but for now I'm learning all the other half of designing on the computer. It's now my job to see how the files I used to just make, go from files to real actual objects. It's quite amazing actually and thank God I took that one semester of Printmaking from Jurgen. Modern print shops really are amazing. and it is a small company (of just 7 of us or so) so it is really like a family; complete with tons of everyone giving each other a hard time. We laugh a lot there, which I really like. So yeah I haven't don't much designing for Omega, but perhaps soon I'll put up pics of the kinds of stuff I did for First Horizon. So yeah, look forward to it. I haven't had much time for my own work really, but maybe when I get more settled into a routine, and get a real place to work, I can get back to it. For now I've just got tons of doodles and thoughts...

my logo

So just fyi, and for me... but this fishy thing is my logo. It's an A and an M which are my initials but stacked so that it looks like a fish. So yeah I put it on all my stuff so I know its mine and it's a fish cause I'm a Pisces. OK.

Update: This design was originally going to look more like the artist Albrecht Durer's signature, but after turning the page sideways to draw more I realized that it kind of looked like an angelfish. I have always been a big fan of fish and aquariums so it seemed kind of natural to have my signature reflect some of my interests. The Pisces thing only helped solidify it in my mind. This logo has gone through a few changes, primarily being simplified, but of late the M has changed to an S to reflect my married name.

More Lin

Hell again and welcome to the encore of Lin Kohaku. She was only a head before and now. Now she is whole. I'm working on a color version in Photoshop, but here is the black and white line art. I drew her today at work in pencil on vellum paper which is lovely for drawing btw. So yes, that's all.

Nori Nori

Last but not least is Nori Nori. I like her name, it's from the latin name for the spotted eagle ray. I was working on a lovely watercolor of her, but screwed up on the eye and made the mistake of trying to fix it and so ruining her entire head... so I'm heart broken at the loss of my watercolor, but luckily I had scanned the original. So here she is. Not too overly ray-like, not like Lin anyway. I thought of making her head ray-shaped, but that ray is not so pretty in the head and has a BIG beaky thing, hence the eagle part of its name, so no. Anyway, the idea is to have a fisher-person who is a mermaid who fishes with a hook and line cause it's a silly nostalgic overly complicated human way to do things, but extremely fascinating. Also she fights with a ball and chain, but not a ball, but an anchor, hence the anchor in two of the images... no its not based off that chick from that one video game as my brother pointed out, as you can see I clearly haven't played the game or know anything about it... but no. Right, so she's in graphite and ink. See you all next time I've got new stuff!

Lin Kohaku

Alright, so here's my second post today. This is Lin Kohaku. Her name is taken from the fish shes based off which is the koi variety called kohaku. Then I remembered that Haku's real name, in Spirited Away, is something something Kohaku, so I had to pick her first name from that movie, and rather than Chihiro, I picked Lin, because I like her personality better for my mermaid lady here. She was drawn in graphite, watercolored and then inked. Shes a cutie no?

New Stuff!

Hello everyone, Well I've finally graduated and settled into my new graphic design position over in Irving, now I just have to pray that when the internship is over they keep me! Anyway, I've managed to make some new stuff for a couple of online campaigns I'm in. Here are a couple of images of the ideas I had for my mermaid person for our One Piece campaign. The girl to the left is the first idea I had of based on a lion fish, the next post to follow is off of a koi (specifically the Kohaku variety) and the third post today is based off a spotted eagle ray... I could have used angelfish in my last post but I wanted something new. Let me know what you think!

So here's one from before Adia and her Daughter, where I was still using Painter. But I like the cleaner gradations and colors in Photoshop better, and here I was still tracing over all my scanned graphite lines so it took forever.

Come to My Presentation!

So here's where I'm messing around with digitally coloring images that I've drawn. I think it looks pretty good with at least three colors of shading. Yup, but for not taking me too long I'm happy.

These two are based on characters from a DnD game a friend of mine ran for us. Adia is a dervish/bard character who was just a little promiscuous. Hence her daughter showing up at the end of the campaign.

So Im Back

So my other web site was taken down after I didn't give Apple more money to keep it up.
I'll be making a new site after I have enough money to pay to keep it online. Look forward to
it! In the mean time just hang out.

Thanks for understanding...

Girly

Girly
Ink
Fall 2005

Well she's a cutie and I love her dress. The bodice makes me happy. I think that's why I drew it. She was just a doodle till I got the urge to ink everything in my sketchbook. Again the hands are bad, but overall I like her quite a lot and its rare that I do sketches that are so... girly.

Another Angel

Angel

Fall 2004

So yeah, here's another angel. She's an older style with bad human figure proportions and hands, but I was really just playing around with lines. It's the wings that are different. Instead of just drawing a feather I tired to use the little lines to make them seem fluffy. Not sure if I succeeded or not but just thought I'd throw her up there, she is one of my favorites, even with all her flaws... It's her face.

Levity

Well for a bit of a change let me introduce you. These two are called "Wiggle and Poop". So my father keeps telling me that I should become a newspaper comic artist really every time he sees Pearls before Swine. So playing around I came up with these two. I even gave them flip books in all my notebooks for classes. Wiggle is the little floating hamster with ADD. He's super hyper but doesn't say much other than "Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee." Poop is the larger of the two. He's easy going and naive and really just a cutie. Together they go and do boring stuff but somehow it always becomes weird. Of course. Don't ask me why I named them such, Ive always had a bizarre mind.

Kimono

Spring 2005

This is an old piece and like my other old pieces, its got this recurring theme of the beautiful girl and a dragon. That was my thing at the time I guess, but I didn't seem to realize it till now. I guess its really the only ones I would finish. Anyway, I call this Kimono because it is what I spent the most time on.

In Blue

Oil Pastels on Vellum Paper
Spring 2006

So here I was really just having fun with the pastels and the paper I had from the Angel Project. This is after Angel 2, but I really just let myself have fun with the colors. After doing the three Angels, I was really tired of black and white and gray.

Deep One

Deep One
Etching
Spring 2006

So my boyfriend found this picture of the occult god Cthulhu and asked me to make a print after it. So I did. I altered the pose just a little and made two plates, one with the line drawing and one with the watery bubbles, it was after the learning experience with the Black Eye, so I tried to use the multiple etching process to get different lighter and darker shades to my advantage. So, for example, the eye is not a different color but simply deeper etched.

Black Eye

Spring 2006

Believe it or not, but this is the same plate that created Eye. However, I was playing around with etching the same plate again. So I was trying to get bright highlights and mid tones, but it came out all black really instead. I still get the eye shape from it and in the actual piece there are darker outlines to the shapes, but I kind of like how really abstract this one became.

Eye

Etching
Spring 2006

Here was one of the other early projects in printmaking. We were practicing etching trimetal plates and this was really the first one I did. This abstract eye shape was inspired off Blank Face, and soon after I created an abstracted ear piece as well, but that one was 22x30 so I don't have a scanner large enough to post it.

Face

Face
Lithography
Spring 2006

Here is the version of Blank Face in color. I used four plates for this one in each yellow, red, blue, and black. I was really just experimenting with getting more than just those colors, as well as how to lay out the colors and the overall technique. I'm not sure if I love the way that I colored the image, but I do love all the color, if that made sense...

Blank Face

Spring 2006

I began taking printmaking as a studio, of course it was too late to become a major in the field, however I really enjoyed making these images. I had found this in a preliminary stage as a doodle that I had done earlier and decided to make a set inspired off this.

Angel Sketch

Aug 2005

This is from the same photo of Angel 1, of course here it is uncropped. I really liked the pose in this one and there was going to be a bigger wing and of course more clothes an body. But for the sake of time I chose to only use the faces and shoulders so that the three pieces would feel more like a cohesive whole.

Angel 3

Here is the final piece in the series of angels. I really liked working on the little bit of wing and the hair. I hope the details again show through.

Angel 2

Angel 2
Graphite and Charcoal on Vellum Paper
Dec 2005

Here is the second of the three angel pieces I did. The first one is really my favorite, but that is because I feel it is more detailed than the others, of course the first took about 4 months to create and the deadlines for class were rapidly approaching to have the others completed. But again the dramatic lighting and the serene subject matter creates a great piece.

Angel 1

Graphite and Charcoal on Vellum Paper
Dec 2005

This is the first of a series of three angels, inspired by the photographs taken in Rome the semester before. In these works I was really focusing on the play of light and dark and all the mid tones. Also I had recently taken a human figure drawing class and was looking to continue to keep working on that discipline.

Pisa Cathedral

Here's another where my theme of angels creeps in. The fantastic architecture is overwhelming, but in this perspective it is the human relation to the space, and the immense feeling of space that is created by the building, that takes center stage.

Angel

Here's a photo from the Bridge of Angels in Rome. Taken during my semester there for school, it is the theme that I picked for myself. Aside from angels being my namesake, their serenity and beauty is what I aspire to. I have a series of drawings after more photos I took around Rome, which I hope to have up soon. Stay Tuned.

Delphi

I also love to travel and in Spring of 2005 I went with my school, the University of Dallas, to Rome for a semester. By far one of the best parts was visiting Greece and the ancient ruins at Delphi. I love photography as another art form, so here is my favorite.

One Action Combat

Aside from traditional drawings and mediums, I also have extensive knowledge of many Adobe programs such as Photoshop and InDesign. As a favor for a friend I laid out a pdf and did some art to add to the information for this new role playing game he and his friends were creating. Here is the finished pdf linked from my GeoCities page:

www.geocities.com/starangelakki/1ActionCombat.pdf

All the artwork is mine, as well as the page layouts and the border art. The content is copyright to the Undead Presidents. I also designed their logo. They used to have a website, but I believe it has been removed.

UPDATE: Found a better image of the original uncolored logo.
